Scientific progress has made many aspects of our environment predictable, but if we take a closer look at the models used by the sciences and humanities explain the world, it becomes apparent that they exhibit gaps in central areas: the various theories and concepts held by scientists and scholars cannot all be combined to generate a coherent, consistent description of terms such as time, consciousness, life and reality. One of the main problems is that the objective world of things and the subjective world of perception, thought and sensation contribute different aspects to human insight.
